CrossFit is not a “one-size-fits-all” experience. Each gym has its own unique management style, programming, facilities, and onboarding process. Here at CrossFit Invigorate, we’ve designed our approach to make your start as smooth and comfortable as possible. We understand that jumping into CrossFit can be intimidating, but we strive to remove that barrier for you. Our goal is for you to feel confident and comfortable when you walk into our facility, ready to dive into your first class.

The Foundation Course: Building a Strong Start

Getting started in CrossFit is like building a house: the foundation is the most important part. You could have the best equipment, the most beautiful facility, and the latest tech, but if your foundation isn’t solid, nothing else will matter. The same goes for your CrossFit journey. That’s why we place such a strong emphasis on our Foundations Course.

Our Foundations Course is designed to lay the groundwork for a long, successful journey in health and wellness. As with any good foundation, it may not be the most glamorous part of the process, but it is by far the most important. While there will be future investments in your fitness journey—like seminars, personal training, and nutrition coaching—none of them are more crucial than the Foundations Course.

Here’s how we set you up for success:

1. Comfortability

Starting in a new gym can feel overwhelming, especially in a group setting. To ease that transition, our Foundations Course is held in a one-on-one personal training environment. During these sessions, the coach’s sole focus is on you—ensuring that you’re learning proper technique, understanding the movements, and building confidence in the gym. You’ll also get a tour of the facility and an overview of how our classes typically run, so you’ll know exactly what to expect when you step into your first group class.

2. Terminology

CrossFit, like many other specialized disciplines, has its own language. If you’ve never been to a CrossFit gym before, you might find yourself more confused after the coach briefs the workout than when you first walked in. During the Foundations Course, we’ll walk you through the common CrossFit terms and explain what they mean. We also introduce you to a variety of movements and different workout styles, helping you feel more comfortable and confident when it’s time to join a group class.

3. Movement Quality

It’s one thing to say you can perform a squat; it’s another thing to do it properly and consistently. In the Foundations Course, we focus on nine foundational movements that are key to CrossFit. These movements are broken down step by step to ensure that you’re performing them correctly before we introduce any additional intensity. Intensity could mean increasing the weight, adding speed, or incorporating more complex variations of a movement. But before we do that, we make sure you have solid technique. Our priority is that you move well, and once you’ve mastered the basics, you’ll be ready to increase intensity safely.

4. Next Steps: Seamless Transition to Group Classes

At CrossFit Invigorate, we’re committed to your long-term success. Once you’ve completed the Foundations Course, your coach will check in with you about when you plan to attend your first group class. The coach will either attend the class with you or be present as a familiar face to guide you through your transition from Foundations to group training. We understand how easy it is to get lost in the mix, especially when you’re new, so we want to ensure that you feel welcome and supported every step of the way.
