Have you ever taken a moment to truly ask yourself: What do I prioritize most in my life? Is it work, family, personal growth, or something else entirely? Now, before you assume I’m here to tell you that working out should be your number one priority—don’t worry, that’s not the case. But I do think this is a great opportunity to reflect on what truly matters to you.
So, take a deep breath, sit back, and let’s dive in.
Where Are You Spending Your Time?
One of the biggest indicators of our priorities is where we spend the majority of our time. For many of us, that’s our 9-to-5 job—40+ hours a week dedicated to earning a living. Does that mean work is our top priority? Not necessarily. It likely means we value financial stability and providing for our families.
Maybe you’re a stay-at-home parent, devoting every hour to raising your children. That’s a full-time job in itself—one that never really clocks out.
It’s easy to look at time spent and assume that’s where our priorities lie, but time alone doesn’t always tell the full story. So, let’s take another approach.
Where Are You Spending Your Money?
Once the bills are covered and there’s some extra cash left over—where does it go?
New shoes? A savings account? Stocks? A surprise gift for a loved one? The way we choose to spend our money often reveals what we truly value.
For example, my wife spends a good chunk of our extra money on things for our kids—new toys, books, clothes, and (of course) storage for all those toys! She prioritizes our children above everything else, making sure they have what they need to be happy and safe.
Me? A quick glance at my Amazon order history would tell you I’m all about gym gear and accessories. But does that mean I care more about the gym than my family? Absolutely not. I trust my wife to handle the things our family needs while I focus on making this gym the best it can be for our amazing members.
So, what do your spending habits say about your priorities?
Where Do You Spend Your Downtime?
Now, this is where we really start to see what matters most. When the workday is over and responsibilities are handled, how do you choose to spend your free time?
Church events? Family gatherings? Gym sessions? Hiking? Video games? Relaxing at home?
If you spend your weekends with friends gaming for hours, then that’s likely your priority. If you’re out making memories with family, then they are your priority. And here’s the truth—there’s no right or wrong answer. But if you think your priority is family, yet you consistently use your free time to get away from them… well, that’s something to reflect on.
Why Does This Matter?
So, why am I bringing all of this up? Because I want to challenge you to consider one more priority—your health and wellness.
It may not always feel urgent, but trust me, it is important. And not just for you—your family, friends, and loved ones want you around for as long as possible. You want to be able to get up and down off the floor with your kids or grandkids. You need to lift that heavy bag of dog food, reach that high shelf, and keep your cholesterol and blood pressure in check.
Exercise helps with all of that. And the best part? You don’t have to sacrifice your other priorities to make it happen.
